Kidsfest Winnipeg: Make a June Festival Day Work for Your Family

Balance performances, workshops and breaks at Winnipeg’s children’s festival.

← Spring in Winnipeg

Kidsfest is held in June by the Winnipeg International Children’s Festival, with performances, workshops and activities at The Forks CN Stage and Field and Manitoba Theatre for Young People. A little planning helps children enjoy the experience without feeling hurried between attractions.

Let children choose one priority

Show them a few current program descriptions and ask what sounds most interesting. Build the day around that choice, then leave time for discoveries. A plan with one important performance is easier to manage than a timetable that depends on attending every session.

Read the ticket details

Check which dates, spaces and activities your admission covers. If you are organizing a school, daycare or community visit, use the festival’s group information rather than purchasing individual tickets before confirming the arrangements.

Plan for transitions

Moving between an outdoor area and an indoor performance takes time, especially with young children. Allow for washrooms, food and changing weather. Agree on how adults will divide supervision and choose a clear meeting point if your group separates.

Keep the final activity optional. Leaving after a successful performance can be more satisfying than staying until everyone is overtired. Afterwards, ask children which skill they would like to try themselves—storytelling, movement or making something. Use the current program to identify a suitable workshop; do not assume that an activity featured in an older festival photograph is offered again this year.
