Storage and Downsizing for a Winnipeg Apartment
Plan what to bring, measure storage and avoid overcrowding a new Winnipeg rental.
Moving to an apartment is a good opportunity to decide what you use regularly and what only takes up space. Begin with the rental's actual storage rather than assuming everything from your current home will fit.
Measure useful space
Check closet width and depth, shelving and the area around doors. Ask whether any separate storage is included and what restrictions apply. A large room can still have limited storage once furniture and walking routes are accounted for.
Sort before moving day
Create keep, donate, sell and recycle groups early. Make a separate list of seasonal items you genuinely need. Avoid buying organizers until you know the dimensions; containers that do not fit simply create another storage problem.
Keep access clear
Plan furniture so entrances and normal movement routes remain usable. Ask before mounting shelving or adding fixtures. Live in the space briefly before making large purchases: the way you actually move around the home often suggests better storage choices than a plan made entirely from photographs.
